DIRE STRAITS
For the first time in my 25 years, it's only now that I have felt so strongly about what is happening in my country, the Philippines. There seems to be chaos everywhere you turn. I don't have to watch the news or read the papers to know and feel that we are in dire straits.
Everyday I pass by Agham Road as a short cut to EDSA. I try to avoid looking at the people who had made tents along the island dividing the road. It pains me to see them living there. Is it guilt on my part that there are people living miserably, homeless and hungry? I shop, I dine, I cannot imagine going through my life without a car and all the perks that go with being a woman. At least a woman like me. Self-centered, a certified biatch.
I'm a capitalist, a bourgeois. And the situation of the country is killing me. Suffice to say that the situation since I came back from LA is that bad.
VAT, exodus to Dubai, looming EDSA People Power (though of a lesser magnitude I believe if ever there will be one), flash floods (nothing new), the prediction that gasoline might reach P50 per liter, etcetera, etcetera.
Let the good times roll again please.
